1. Introduction

This package contains the templates and a manual for creating electronic manuals ("e-manuals") to display on the Nintendo 3DS system.

2. Notes

It is now possible to use e-manuals for card-based applications, as well as downloadable applications. This package also explains how to create e-manuals for card-based applications.

The middleware copyright template units contain copyright wording that is based on the contracts between Nintendo and the companies involved or the rules of other companies. Middleware legal lines are intended to be applied for software that uses Nintendo-provided middleware. For licensee-published titles, adjust these templates as necessary based on any contracts with other companies or those companies’ guidelines.

3. System Requirements

The following software is required to use this package:

• CTR-ManualEditor (included in the CTR-ManualTools package)

• Adobe Photoshop CS6/CS5/CS4/CS3/CS2 (Windows version)

• CTR-ManualTools_PhotoshopPlugin (included in the CTR-ManualTools package)

5. Grace Period

The specifications in CTR Electronic Manual Creation Guide, Version 4.4 are mandatory for master submissions after June 1, 2017.

It is always prudent to use the latest released version of the templates, but a grace period allows most of the specifications from earlier versions of the CTR Electronic Manual Creation Guide to be accepted as follows:

CTR Electronic Manual Creation Guide version 4.3 can be used until May 31, 2017.

Note, however, that critical items — underlined items in sections identified with a "◆" symbol — in the most recent guide’s Revision History must be addressed prior to submission, even during the grace period.

The following guidelines govern master submissions:

If your software was developed as a card-based application and you then wish to sell it as a downloadable application, follow the rules in the "Creating a Downloadable Application" section of CTR Programming Manual: How to Create Applications.

Aligned all object names with those used in NCL's Japanese templates, and made object names consistent for all NOA languages. This was done in order to prepare for a workflow change; future versions of the templates will be localized in MessageStudio.
The suffix _NOA has been added to all NOA-specific text boxes.

Style Changes Made Throughout Templates

Changed all occurrences of notes (e.g., "Note: XXXX") to diamonds (e.g., "? XXXX") in order to conserve space and be consistent with the design standards created for the Wii U E-Manual Templates. In Spanish, this had the aftereffect of changing the subsequent letter from lowercase to capital.
Changed the font size for all notes from "Medium" to "Small" to conserve space and improve the balance of the files.
Replaced large black circles (?) and hyphens (-) with bullets (•) in bulleted lists. The large black circle (?) symbol continues to be used to mark section headers.
Standardized on the use of pure black text to mark references to on-screen text in the US English templates. (In versions of the templates prior to 2.5a, this standard had not been applied consistently.)
Substantially increased the consistency of the amount of whitespace between vertically adjacent objects.
Unified the amount of whitespace at the top and bottom of each template with NCL's templates.

`illegal_copy.ncpg`	Added a header ("IMPORTANT") to match the Japanese more closely, and also match the terms of use in the Wii U e-manual templates. Changed the font size from Smallest to Small.

`spotpass.ncpg`	Removed " ? Setup," since it was an unnecessary heading. Streamlined the text by making the former "? Setup" content into a note, and making the bulleted list of requirements part of this note.
`streetpass.ncpg`	Made the sentence about all users needing to activate StreetPass into a note for readability's sake. Reorganized the note at the bottom of the template.
`support.ncpg`	Replaced the "Dummy Support" content with an outline of suggested information to match NCL's template and NOA's Wii U templates. Also added a note about not providing gameplay tips.
`timeticket1.ncpg`	Added ? symbols before the "Duration of …" and "How to Purchase …" sections to make them stand out more.
`timeticket2.ncpg`	Changed "[name of software]" to "Software Title" to be consistent with notation used elsewhere in the templates.
`vc_end.ncpg`	Changed "please see Suspend Point on the Virtual Console Functions page" to "please see the 'Suspend Point' section of the Virtual Console Functions page" for clarity.
`vc_fig_line.ncpg`	Added two-digit callouts (somehow these were missing from NOA's templates for quite a long time).
`vc_menu*.ncpg`	Removed "or hold (X)" to match the Japanese. Made the headings (for example, "Activate/Deactivate Restore Points," "When Restore Points Are Activated," and "When Restore Points Are Deactivated" from "Medium" to "Small" font size. As a result, some headings now span two lines. Outdented the body text under the "Creating a Restore Point" and "Loading a Resetore Point" sections.
`vc_menu_save*.ncpg`	In the first paragraph under the "Restore Points" section, added "including any in-game save data" to match the Japanese and better reflect the specifications. Added a "Caution" symbol before the "Be careful when using restore points!" section. Changed "October 24" and "October 28" to "October 24th" and "October 28th," respectively. Did the same thing for "Oct. 24" and "Oct. 28." Implemented the boxes for Game Content, Game Progress, and Save Data as linked groups.
`vc_switch_ctrler_multi.ncpg`	Made the note "You cannot use Controller 2…" red, since this doesn't always need to be used. Implemented separate paragraphs and notes as separate text boxes. TODO: In the next version (3.1), I'd like to add "You cannot switch controllers during Download Play" to match the Japanese. This seems like important information. TODO: I should check with Scott and the rest of the team to make sure they remove "You cannot use both controllers at the same time." which was present in Scott's latest text file. I believe Treehouse said they didn't want to include this text, because it was so incredibly obvious, and NCL accepted (it's already removed from 2.5)./td>
